The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Division of Law Enforcement, in partnership with the University of Florida Maples Center for Forensic Medicine, hosts the FWC Wildlife Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Gainesville, Florida. The wildlife forensic sciences laboratory provides for species identification, identification of animal remains, trauma analysis, cause of death determinations, and postmortem interval estimations. Services offered by the laboratory include forensic genetics and DNA identification, taxonomic identification, biochemical analysis, forensic pathology, forensic entomology, forensic botany, forensic osteology, clandestine grave site detection, and ground penetrating radar. Crime scene response is also offered by the laboratory for complex or difficult scenes needing extensive forensic science analysis. Laboratory services are available to outside agencies and states upon request.
