Department of Pathology

The Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine within the University of Florida College of Medicine serves as the administrative home of the Maples Center.  The department has over 200 faculty, staff, and students who specialize in clinical medicine, education, patient care, and research.  The department’s 65 faculty members are located in four divisions: Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Experimental Pathology, and UF Pathology Laboratories. The department has 18 pathology residents and fellows, who play a key role in patient care, education, and research.

Division of Autopsy Services

University of Florida Pathology Laboratories (UF PathLabs) makes contract autopsy services available for hospitals throughout Florida. The Division of Autopsy Services is expertly equipped to perform Forensic, Pediatric, and Private Autopsies, as well as Toxicology Analysis, and Neuropathology Examinations.

Office of the Medical Examiner

The office serves over 350,000 citizens of Alachua, Bakers, Bradford, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy and Union Counties, and determines the cause and manner of death in those deaths that fall under the jurisdiction of the Medical Examiner as described in Florida Statutes Sec. 406.11,F.S., & Ch. 11G-2 of the Florida Administrative Code.
